The renaissance period of art revolved around self portraits, sculpturing and many explanations of the death of Jesus Christ. Qualities of the renaissance paintings such as the contrast between light and dark to give the illusion of depth, renaissance paintings is extremely dull and gives you a sad feeling such as grief. Sadness is also a common element used in many artworks during the Renaissance period. The expressions on faces in paintings also give you a sad feeling. Renaissance art taught to express your feelings about every artwork and this truly was shown.

This period was the time were many people perfected Renaissance art; Giotto di Bondone, Sandro Botticelli, Raphael, Michelangelo Buonarroit and Leonardo Da Vinci.

Throughout the renaissance art period, images of Jesus Christ became very popular. Art became a way to express yourself and how you feel and most artists would do this in paintings of Jesus Christ. Sad facial expressions show represents Jesus’s suffering for us and people mourning over his death.
