What are the features of this art period?
Romanesque artworks were influenced by Byzantine artworks. Both, Romanesque and Byzantine have similar art styles. Like the byzantine artworks, the Romanesque period used large eyes and used the colour gold, as the colour in this period represents wealth and loyalty.
What was happening historically and culturally during this period?
During the Romanesque period, feudalism was still a big part of Europe. The European kingdoms were once ruled by a king who had control over the entire kingdom. Although the Pope had the most power in Europe, who influenced many people during the time. Christianity had spread all over Europe.
Explain how this affected how Jesus is being portrayed during this period?
During this period Jesus is being portrayed very similar to how the Byzantines portrayed Jesus, a long hair and a beard was still the representation of Jesus in this period. Jesus in the Romanesque period was portrayed as a strong, loving,caring, helping, king, most artworks of him sitting down makes him look powerful and great (leader, king).
